Russian Prosecutor General's Office declares U.S. Freedom House NGO undesirable

MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax) - The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has declared the activity of the U.S. Freedom House NGO undesirable in Russia.

"The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has declared the activity of the international non-governmental organization Freedom House Inc. (the U.S.) undesirable in Russia," the statement said.

"Facilitation of the so-called 'dominant' role of the United States in the world is among key areas of Freedom House's activity," it said.

Since the beginning of the special military operation, "the organization has been actively promoting the policy of unfriendly states with regard to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, including through the discrediting of the Russian Armed Forces," it said.

According to the office, Freedom House calls for comprehensive assistance to the Ukrainian army, seizing frozen Russian assets in favor of Ukraine, heavier sanctions, and international restrictions on third states.

Founded in 1941, Freedom House is funded by U.S. government contributions, among other sources. Its website says the organization seeks the global expansion and defense of freedom.
