Russia triples pea exports in Q1 to 775,000 tonnes - Agroexport

MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax) - Russia exported 775,000 tonnes of peas in the first quarter of this year, which is a nearly 3.2-fold increase over the same period last year, the Agriculture Ministry's Agroexport Center said.

The largest buyer of Russian peas in 2024 is China.

As reported, citing data from China's General Administration of Customs, 147,100 tonnes of Russian peas were supplied to the Chinese market in Q1, more than from any other supplier.

According to Rosstat, peas were sown on 2 million hectares in Russia in 2023. The leading regions were the Siberian, Volga and Southern federal districts. The largest area of crops, 225,400 hectares, was recorded in the Stavropol Territory. The harvest of grain legumes reached a record 5.9 million tonnes in 2023 (versus 4.6 million tonnes in 2022). This number includes a pea harvest of 4.7 million tonnes (versus 3.6 million tonnes in 2022).

According to preliminary calculations from Agroexport, the potential for pea exports by 2030 is about 4 million tonnes, worth almost $1.2 billion.
