Ukraine's market of new commercial vehicles grows 13% in April 2024 - association

MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax) - The number of primary registrations of new commercial vehicles (trucks and special vehicles) in Ukraine increased 13% to 1,049 in April 2024 year-on-year, but was 1%, or by seven vehicles, lower than in March 2024, Ukrainian media outlets said, citing Ukrautoprom, the national association of motor vehicle manufacturers, as saying on social media.

The April 2024 top five brands of commercial vehicles in Ukraine were Renault (257 vehicles sold in April), Scania (107), Volkswagen (89), Peugeot (74), and Fiat (54), Ukrautoprom said.

As reported earlier with reference to Ukrautoprom figures, 931 trucks and special vehicles were sold in Ukraine in April 2023 versus 321 sold in April 2022. The top five brands in April 2023 were Renault (289 vehicles), Mercedes-Benz (69), Citroen (64), Peugeot (62), and Volkswagen (61).

Nearly 3,913 new vehicles joined Ukraine's stock of trucks and special vehicles in January-April 2024, which is 24% more than in the same period the year before, Ukrautoprom said.

Meanwhile, according to the AUTO-Consulting information and analytical group, the sales of new trucks with a gross vehicle weight of over 3.5 tonnes in Ukraine rebounded in April 2024, growing 18% to 400 vehicles year-on-year, also helping reverse the January-April 2024 trend to record a small growth of 2% on the truck market.

The April result was promoted above all by an increase in the sales of heavy trucks (with a gross vehicle weight of over 16 tonnes) by 18.3%, or by 50 vehicles.

Scania topped the list with a 25% share of this segment on the Ukrainian market, followed by MAN with a 9.5% share and Isuzu vehicles, a large number of which was supplied to Ukraine as assistance.

Iveco, DAF and Ford Trucks also increased sales in April 2024, AUTO-Consulting said. Shipments of JAC, Foton, Dayun and Howo special tracked vehicles were also on the rise. Truck-mounted cranes and excavators were supplied to Ukraine as humanitarian assistance.

The registrations of new commercial vehicles in Ukraine rose 65% to 11,300 in 2023 year-on-year, Ukrautoprom said. According to AUTO-Consulting data, the segment of trucks with a gross vehicle weight of over 3.5. tonnes grew 56.5% to 4,853.
